Fixing a brushless fan chattering inside an Intel NUC (NUC5i7RYH) and breakdown of the fan inside (BSB05505HP) and examining the issues causing the grinding and chattering sounds
After having this Intel NUC start making some grinding and chattering noise, I decided to investigate why this would happen and jump into a teardown of a small fan.
Trying to determine the issue by closely examining the fan and it’s components and seeing how the small fan operates, it was a random last ditch attempt to lubricate the fan center stem that solved the issue, a little drop of 3-in-1 lubrication and a dab of silicon grease, this fan is not working great.
Update: Sept 16 2021 – Fan still working great runs, machine running 24/7 in a machine shop environment!
